rare bird
an exceptional person or thing; a rarity.
I was initially drawn to counseling because of my interest in and desire to understand the human conscious experience. As I worked with more and more clients, I began to realize just how very unique and interesting each individual person's perspective really is, how each new person was different in so many ways from the next, regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, ability, socioeconomic status, or diagnosis. I have found, and continue to find, each new client to be exceptional, rare, and precious. That being the case, I believe that the most effective way to approach each client is with a combination of a refreshed awareness of the infinite variety of the human experience and a firm footing in the time-honored and researched theories and practices that compose modern psychotherapy.
Quite often, we can feel alone and misunderstood, as we are, in fact, the only person who truly knows what it is like to live our own individual life. I hope to help each of my clients recognize that what can sometimes feel like loneliness is really the very common experience of living a singularly unique life. My ultimate dream is that through my work and through the work of so many other skilled and talented healers, all of humanity can connect with one another in the shared strangeness of living a unique human life. I feel that this process of human connection begins with accepting yourself and learning to love and cherish the exceptional and precious creature that you are.
