Rare Bird Psychotherapy provides counseling to adults and adolescents. I use therapeutic methods derived from the Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral, Existential, and Relational theories of psychotherapy. Counseling is an art and I am not afraid to improvise and explore different strategies to help you find yourself, your passion, and your path towards wholeness and health.
I offer a limited number of sliding scale appointments each month.
Every individual brings unique concerns and challenges to therapy. Below are some of the groups of people and their challenges that I have experience working with.
I specialize in providing therapy to artists, professional or amateur, and to those that identify as artistic or are yearning to bring their talent and vision into the active creative process. My mission is to help anyone with vision and creative ambition manage, channel, and share their creative energy with the world.
I also specialize in working with people who are Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Pansexual, Asexual, Queer, Questioning or Curious, as well as people who identify as Transgender, Genderqueer, or Intersex. I welcome anyone who recognizes that their gender and sexuality doesn’t fit within the neat and binary categories society offers us.
I enjoy working with young people in their late teens and early twenties who are just beginning to figure out who they are and who they want to be in the world. Therapy can be a great help during this often confusing transition into adulthood.
I have experience working with people who have experienced sexual assault as a child or adult to help them heal from these traumatic experiences.
I have experience working with people who struggle with compulsive or addictive tendencies, including alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, or opiate use, as well as those struggling with porn or internet addiction, or any problematic behaviors.
I have extensive experience working with people who are blind or have suffered a brain injury as well as people with intellectual or physical disabilities.
I have experience working with people struggling with severe mental disorders such as Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder Types I and II, Schizophrenia, and Schizoaffective Disorder.
I have experience working with people who have contemplated or attempted suicide or self-harm, and I welcome anyone who has struggled with these troubling urges.
